It takes significant planning to travel long distances in electric vehicles. With the frequent need to stop for charging every 300-400 km, travelling across the country proves an arduous task. However, Rainer Zietlow broke the record by crossing Canada in a Volkswagen ID.4.
Zietlow is perhaps best known for running Challenger4, the banner under which he performs numerous adventures and challenges. Zietlow has set altitude records in the Volkswagen Touareg and crossed multiple continents in regular fossil fuel-powered cars. His latest project required him to drive across Canada in an EV as he made as few stops as possible.

Zietlow performed his challenge to cross Canada in an ID.4, where he made only 18 stops across the journey of over 7,100 Km. He averaged 396 Km between stops, a large portion of the ID.4’s regular range. While the vehicle model used isn’t specified, it’s assumed Zietlow drove one of the rear-wheel versions due to its higher range compared to the AWD model.

While the record of 18 stops is impressive, EV technology is seeing major improvement as the years pass by. Additionally, the ID.4 doesn’t offer the best range on the market, meaning this record could be quickly upset.
